Mauritius covers a total area of 2,040 square kilometers, including Agalega Islands, Cargados Carajos Shoals (Saint Brandon), and Rodrigues. It is situated in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar, between 20 17 degrees latitude South and 57 33 degrees longitude East.
The main island, from which the country derives its name, is of volcanic origin and is almost entirely surrounded by coral reefs. The capital is at Port Louis.
The highest point is Mont Piton (828 m) and the lowest point is the Indian Ocean (0 m).
