Mauritius - Weather & Climate

Climate

The climate is tropical, modified by southeast trade winds; warm, dry winter (May to October); hot, wet, humid summer (November to April).
Temperatures in winter (May to October) vary between 20ºC and 26ºC (68ºF - 80ºF) in the coastal regions and lower on the plateau. July is the coolest month and has average temperatures of 22ºC (72ºF) in the lowlands and 16ºC (61ºF) in the plateau. Rainfall is abundant, ranging from 90 centimeters per year in the western lowlands to 500 centimeters in the tableland. Humidity is frequently above 80 percent.
The hot and wet summer lasts from November through April with the temperatures around 26ºC to 34ºC (80ºF - 93ºF). February is the warmest month with temperatures averaging 27ºC (81ºF) in the lowlands and 22ºC (72ºF) on the plateau. Cyclone season runs from December through March.
The water temperature of the Indian Ocean can go up to 28ºC (82ºF).

Required clothing & What to pack

Remember that Mauritius has a tropical climate so light dresses are advisable.
In the summer months you will also need sunglasses and a hat. Warmer wear for evenings are also advisable and don't forget your rainwear.

When to go

Depending on the focus of your vacation, there may be specific times when you should travel. The peak holiday season runs from October to Easter.
